St. Petersburg Contemporary Music Center «reMusik.org» takes an active role in the organization of innovative projects and supports the promotion of new music. The Center is dedicated to building and educating a national and international community of composers, musicians, musicologists, and members of the public interested in learning more about contemporary music in Russia and new music as a whole. Additionally, its mission includes the support of composers and ensembles, music publishing, an academic research center, an online journal, and internet sites as well as the financial support of projects related to the sphere of new music in St. Petersburg. www.remusik.org/

Hi. I have an MM in music theory. I enjoy music from all style periods, including contemporary. Can you help me to understand what elements of this work you consider to be redeeming? I'm not saying this to be some RUclips jerk/critic. I have not studied composition in over 20 years, so I would be very happy to read about your goal for this music and your method. The only cohesive device that I hear is a rhythmic motif. I don't detect a tonic, or any tonal center, but I don't hear tone rows either. There is no discernable melody. Most importantly, in my opinion, there is no sense of tension and release that makes music satisfying to the listener. I could not hear any type of form, though nothing is wrong with through-composed. I fully admit that I think that I am missing something because it sounds random, ...nothing for the listen to hang on to... as though a group of musicians are sitting together with no printed music and playing whatever they wish. Are traits traits like a tonal center, a melody or motif, conveyance of emotion other that chaos; some kind of recognizable harmony, a sense of meter; formal design; creation and release of tension; is all of this passé in 2023? If so, what are the compositional tools you employed, and what are the goals of this work? Thank you!
I can't answer your question, but this music reminds me of the soundtrack from the movie Alien just with all the musicality stripped away. For me it creates a sense of dread but whithout any musicality it sounds boring. The Alien soundtrack I think also lacks any form of release which makes sense for a horror movie tho
Fascinating piece, beautifully orchestrated, amazing performance! The cellist Karolina Öhman is absolutely first-rate. The structural complexity of this work calls out for repeated hearings. Bravo!

I find it funny this piece relies so much on sharp attacks to create drama. This is done the same way its done in hard bop jazz, to provide a human touch for the listener. If this song was more sonically consistent and even it would be very hard for the listener to follow a melodic story, so this has to be introduced so the listener knows that there are important points to the music.
